Skiing With The Robins > Latigo Ranch

Skiing With The Robins

April 20, 2009

While Denver and much of the front range recently received a phenomenal spring snow storm, we only had a dusting.  But, that was on top of a big winter of snow accumulation.  Latigo had a great winter of skiing guests, ski races, and other events, but we’re quite happy now to be enjoying our off-season.  It is an ‘in between’ time for exercising though.  Randy and I have skied together most every afternoon this winter, but now our trail selection is limited to Saddle View.  There is snow to ski on from our driveway to the breakfast site, so it still is a good afternoon’s workout.

The robins have returned to the Latigo dude ranch, and they must be finding things to eat in the small patches of dirt that are beginning to crop up.  Red winged blackbirds are making quite a ruckus and are dominating space at our bird feeder.  It is so strange to be skiing and hear the birds singing from every direction.

Mother’s Day weekend is when we expect to hear the familiar hummingbird sound, but they’ll find it pretty slim pickin’s when it comes to nectar from flowers.  There have been springs where I’ve had to bring in the hummingbird feeders in the mornings to thaw them out before they could eat successfully.  What a tough existence!

‘Thank you’ just seems so inadequate…It was honestly one of the best vacations I can remember.

We loved Latigo Ranch! It was our best vacation ever! Cabins were comfortable, food was scrumptious and the wranglers were wonderful.
