What We Learned from the Old Slide Days

What We Learned from the Old Slide Days

April 29, 2019

Looking back over the old slides that had been tucked away in a box for safekeeping, one thing is abundantly clear: it's always been about family.

There’s something inherently tricky about the dude ranching industry. We are both constantly evolving and constantly resisting change. If it isn’t horses, hats, and hospitality, it isn’t the vacation our guests want. If we never do anything new, though, we fell into the stagnant marketing mire and can’t get anyone to come on a ranch vacation.

If we never change, we never know the good things that can come from it. If we change too much, we don’t stay true to ourselves.  So, here’s the question: How much should we change?

Sometimes we have to take a look back to see where we’re going. Or… you know… to laugh at how funny we used to look.

Latigo as we all know it started out with this starry-eyed couple. They still love each other, their family, and the faith-filled dude-ranching business they built together. Their family has grown and moved and shifted, but it is still the heart and soul of Latigo. Their vision is what made Latigo what it is today.

Little Spencer grew up and got married.

Hannah still has a way of staring down the camera after all these years.

The two of them took over the food program, too, but he and Hannah learned everything they knew from cooking in the kitchen with their dad.

Sure, we have a better menu, some fancy trimmings, and an excellent few new additions to the program. We have thought through everything every year, and we made changes when we realized we could improve what we have.

The views haven’t changed from the front lawn. The rides are as incredible as they ever were. The people who made it what it is are still here, and we’ve only had time to perfect it.

Here’s to a lifestyle that we wouldn’t change for the world.

So what are you waiting for? Latigo’s been waiting for you for years. Isn’t it time to join the family?

We loved Latigo Ranch! It was our best vacation ever! Cabins were comfortable, food was scrumptious and the wranglers were wonderful.
